Camellia in Flower, oil on canvas, complete

Camellia 2014

Camellia in Flower, oil on canvas 126 x 89 cm, Leigh Glover 2014

The spring flowering camellia had a fantastic show this year in our garden in Sussex.  It is part of my ongoing Flourishing Gardens series.  In the photos below I share how I create oil paintings like this.

I begin by observing and drawing the camellia.

I then explore the colour possibilities by mixing oils to find the best representation I can of the natural flower amidst the foliage.  I then plan the composition but make sure it is not too rigid as I need to leave a little room for inspiration and creativity whilst painting the picture.

The finished oil painting is for sale (please contact leighglover@me.com) and can be seen on the  Flourishing Gardens  page.

It can be bought as a digital print or the image licensed for commercial reproduction through the Bridgeman Art Library.

Millenium Bridge, Tate Modern is in sight!

I have been slowly progressing with this watercolour on Millennium Bridge.  The Tate Modern is now in sight with crowds crossing the Millennium Bridge to the south bank.

The next stage is to look left towards St Paul’s Cathedral.  I have had some wonderful comments from the public and a group of school children calling my work “Sick!”.  Which I hope I can take to mean “Wicked!” or “Cool!” otherwise I am done for!  (It is hard to keep up with the lingo!)
